visual studio .net enterprise tools : Reverse Engineering Problem in VS 2003

Reverse engineering failed with the message "Couldn't add the UML diagram to
the solution. Error number 32." When Visio starts I have a blank work
area. The main menu | View | Task Pane is not checked. I check it and the
Drawing Type and Open Drawing Panes are displayed. I select the vsd file
created from the reverse engineering process in the Open Drawing pain.

The Model Explorer does not show any of the classes from the reverse
engineering process.

The About dialog shows "Microsoft(R) Visio(R) for Enterprise Architect
(10.0.2705)

Looking through the other posts does not show anything. Any suggestions?

Jim

Does this happen with all of your projects, or just one of them? I've seen
some strange problems when forward and reverse enginerring with VEA
2003(same version as you), but 99% of them were "fixed" by rebooting the
machine, or closing and reopening VEA and/or VS .NET. I know that's not a
solution to the problem, but as a work around it has worked for me. Mind
you, large VS .NET projects tend to be a problem for VEA and the reverse
enginering add-in.

This seems to happen with all the project I have tried to reverse engineer,
event a new Windows Application I just created. The system has been
rebooted, and both Visual Studio and VEA have been repaired and
uninstalled/reinstalled. Still have the problem. The initial project is not
large, it is a library (dll) containing 2 Component that define Window
controls, 2 classes defining EventArgs, and a class file that contains an
Enum definition.

Like I stated above I created a new project for a Windows Application and
immediately did a Visio reverse engineering, same error.

Does anybody know what error 32 signifies?

Will this work for you?

Tried the suggested configuration change, no joy. Visio still fails with
the same error.

Hmm, this really annoys me, although probably not nearly as much as it does
you...<g> In any case, I did a little more searching (as I can't reproduce)
and here's noe more link to try out:

http://dotnet.org.za/hendrik/archive/2004/04/19/1086.aspx

As I stated before, I've seen error number 32 myself, but I always managed
to fix it as indicated. If you still have your problem after looking at the
link, I suggest you contact MS Support.

Again I tried the suggested change and no joy. Visio still fails with the
error. Another thing I noticed is that Visual Studio .NET will not execute
any macros. Do you think this is significant?

I record a temporary macro.
Say, go to end of line, insert some text and go to next line
I end macro recording
I run the temporary macro using the (Ctrl+Shift+P).

Nothing happens.

I now believe this macro problem is the because I have another account on
the same system, my local system account not the domain account. When I
run VS.NET 2003 macros work and reverse engineering works!

The problem is either with the VS.NET configuration options or the
configuration of the domain account.

Now I need to figure out how to reset the domain's account VS.NET Tool |
Options to the factory settings.
Then try the macros again.

Any ideas?

Thanks

What do you mean by "Visual Studio .NET will not execute any macros"?
