Still waiting for response from ms team. So far I had 2 standard emails
simply telling me someone will respond in 72 hours but no one has! What the
point of having managed newsgroups if the ms staff don't reply in a
reasonable timeframe even if its to say they can't give an answer! As a MSDN
Universal customer this is rather disappointing to say the least.

Still waiting!!!!!!

Hey Jduck,

I found your post while I was doing my own search for information about
this. The articles I have seen seem to claim that the Visual Studio 2005 Team
Suite software should come with a full version of Foundation Server:

Lap Around Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2005

Do Visual Studio Team Editions require Team Foundation Server?

http://msdn.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.aspx?&query=%22team+foundation%22&lang=en&cr=US&guid=&sloc=en-us&dg=microsoft.public.vsnet.general&p=1&tid=15d37f2f-7ff8-4246-bd06-709a65b056e3&mid=15d37f2f-7ff8-4246-bd06-709a65b056e3

"Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server is part of the new Microsoft
Visual Studio 2005 Team System product"

Choosing Between Microsoft Visual Studio Team System and Microsoft Visual
SourceSafe

http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/teamsystem/default.aspx?pull=/library/en-us/dnvs05/html/VSTmSysvsVSS.asp

To me the above would mean that it should be part of the Visual Studio 2005
Team System downloads.

This is very confusing, I found some more informtation but it looks like Team
Foundation Server is probably a separate product:

Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server »

Team Foundation Server is what powers the collaboration aspects of the
Visual Studio Team System. When used in conjunction with Visual Studio Team
System, Team Foundation Server enable you to effortlessly manage and track
the progress and health of your projects.

Also here is a good chart that shows Team Foundation server in conjunction
with Visual Studio Team System:

Rendfest, I given up trying to get an answer from ms I can only assume they
don't what to say for some reason. Nice to know I'm not the only one unclear
about this.
Thanks for you info though

Hi guys, I don't represent MS and can't back up this information but my
understanding was that the server portion is free for teams up to 5 and like
$2,500 retail for teams up to 100. Each user needs a CAL (client access
license) which comes with a Visual Studio Team System version. I'm not sure
what the cost is for additional CALs or the availability. I'll repost any
official info I find.

Enjoy,

eeevans
