visual studio .net enterprise tools : EIF and Logman

I downloaded the most recent version of Log Parser today and it reminded me
that at one time there had been some talk about the next version of EIF
supporting logman. The Log Parser supports the Event Tracing for Windows
(ETW) format produced by logman so that would be a big benefit in analyzing
the data captured.

I was wondering. Is there another version of EIF planned before Longhorn?
Will it support Event Tracing for Windows?

Thank you in advance.

Jim

Hello jim,

The patterns & practices team is taking over the functionality of EIF with
the Logging & Instrumentation Library availible in Enterprsie Library. You
can read more about it here (http://www.microsoft.com/practices) You will
still be able to use EIF if you want or switch to Enterprise Library. There
is not a 1 to 1 mapping, but we support all the same sinks except for ETW
at this time. We are working to get ETW out as soon as possible.

Thanks,
scott
