Team Foundation Server (TFS), SharePoint and FrongPage extensions

visual studio .net enterprise tools: I have a server that has been upgraded from W2K Server to W2K3 Ent. This
server is being used for web development (Web Sites, Web Services) and
debugging is a must. In W2K, Visual Studio Team Suite including SQL Server
Express, and SharePoint were installed.

I would like to install TFS Workgroup on this server to manage the
development processes... As far as I can tell, all the prerequisites are met
except the Frontpage extensions. Everything I've read suggests that
Frontpage extensions cannot be installed/enabled because SharePoint conflicts
with them.

When I try and prohibit the Frontpage Extensions (Web Service Extensions
lists FrontPage Server Extensions, FrontPage Server Extensions 2000, and
FrontPage Server Extensions 2002) I get a warning that if I prohibit
FrontPage Server Extensions Microsoft SharePoint will be prohibited from
running.

I'd like to verify that I can debug Web Sites and Web Services without
having FrontPage extensions installed (via file-system web projects); but
doing so seems like it will screw up the prerequisites for TFS.

Any advice?

Hi Kevin. Sorry, I meant the prerequisite that FPSE not be installed is not
met.

As I said, when I try and disable FPE it says WSS is dependant on it. So,
your comment that WSS conflicts with FPE seems to be contradictory to what
WSS is telling me.

Hi Peter,

I need to clarify something here. Frontpage Server Extension is not a
prerequisite for TFS. You can check the following link for confirmation.

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms400745.aspx

Yes, as you know, the FPSE conflicts with WSS. So we cannot install FPSE on
the TFS server machine. Without FPSE, this server cannot become a web
server which holds ASP.NET apps. In this case, we have only 2 choices.

1. Debug the website on the developer's machine. (Via file system or FPSE)
2. Use another machine for website debugging.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience. If anything is unclear, please feel free
to let me know.

Hi Peter,

I meant FPSE is conflict with TFS. So removing FPSE is a prerequisite for
installing TFS. Right?

Also WSS does not depend on FPSE. If your WSS stops working, after FPSE is
disabled, I suggest you remove FPSE completely from Add/Remove Programs's
Windows Components tab. If it still doesn't work, please follow the TFS
installing instructions and install WSS in server farm mode.
