visual studio .net general : Open Help(document explorer) with a topic

Can one open up the VS Help System (document explorer) with a specific
topic?

I teach a couple of .NET classes and would like to create a link on PPT that
opens up a specific topic in the Document Explorer. I know I can use the
link to open it up in IE but I would prefer to be able to sync to the table
of contents etc.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Hello Ben,

Thanks for your post. I'd like to share the following information with you:

topic?

1. Based on my experience, DExplore.exe does not provide a switch to open a
specific topic. You can execute the following command to view a list of
available command line options of Microsoft Document Explorer:

DExplore.exe /?

Where DExplore.EXE is usually installed in the
%ProgramFiles%\Common\Micrsoft Shared\Help folder.

As you can see, it only offers a command-line parameter "/helpcol
ms-help://<collection>" to point to a particular "*.hxn" collection file,
which in turn points to the *.HxS files.

2. Opening the Document Explorer URL (say, ms-help://.../blahblah.htm) in
IE is a good methods. As you know, MSDN Library is also online at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/, I strongly recommend you offer the
links to MSDN Online in your PPT.

Hope this helps.

That was not the answer I wanted to hear, but at least I can stop looking
for a solution. Hopfully Microsft will fix this "oversight" sometime in the
future. Well... one can hope at least. ;)

Thanks,

Ben
