visual studio .net general : VS.NET can't open some web projects

I have VS.NET 2003 installed and it works fine on most of the web projects.
However for a couple of the downloaded projects such as Dot Net Nuke and MS
PetShop, I get the following in a message box in VS.NET while trying to open
the project:

"Visual Studio .NET cannot create or open the application. The likeliest
problem is that required commponents are not installed on the local Web
server. Run Visual Studio .NET setup and add the Web Development
component."

Does anyone know what it is looking for?

Thanks
Bob

I am getting the same error, but it happens every time I try to create a new web project. I think it has something to do with the IIS configuration. In the IIS log, I see two lines logged every time I try this
14:35:51 127.0.0.1 GET /WebApplication29/get_aspx_ver.aspx 40
14:35:51 127.0.0.1 GET /WebApplication29/get_aspx_ver.aspx 40

Where "WebApplication29" is the name of the asp.net project I was trying to create.
I have reinstalled IIS, FPSE, and the whole VS deal many times. Still can't figure out how to fix this

Chcek whether the home directory of the IIS is pointing to the correct directory.

Also open the *.sln file in a notepad and check the path of the project mentioned

I had the same problem. Not sure what caused it, but I WASTED countless hours screwing around with VS .NET, to no avail. I finally went into Control Panel - Add/Remove Applications - Windows Components and UNinstalled IIS. Then I reinstalled IIS and everything was hunky doree. Go figure.
