What advice would you have for someone that has never used
Visual Studio? Are there any training programs that you
could suggest? Cost? Availability? Have a decent job
situation that has come up not far from where I live, but
I would have to learn Visual Studio...and I don't know it

I don't think there are any very well done learning materials myself
as I scoured any and all opportunities. An exception being that I did
get something useful from LearnVisualStudio.NET [1] and there are
fairly decent articles on websites here and there. I've only seen one
book and for me it was not worth buying.

I have to also acknowledge the many people that have taken their
time to provide me with answers to my questions posted to
the newsgroups. Thank you all!

This may well not fit your scenario, but you will probably find beginning
programming classes at local community colleges and vocational-technical
institutes that use Visual Studio .NET. The classes will probably be
language-specific (i.e. VB, C# or C++), but will include information on
Visual Studio. As the Summer 2004 sessions are about to start, you should
be able to find a four or eight week class.
If you investigate this alternative, be sure to ask if the institution in
question is a member of the Microsoft Developers Network Academic Alliance
(MSDNAA). If they are, you will be able to get a copy of Visual Studio .NET
at no cost.
