The bits are the the same, but it takes some time to put them on DVDs, so
electronic downloads are always come first.

Hi all, is the version available for download for MSDN subscribers the
Release final version? Or will another version come out on Nov 7? Also, what
about SQL 2005? Is that release too?

TIA!

Thanks. Sorry, a few more questions:-

1. I have a box with Sept release of VS 2005 Installed. DO I have to follow
any specific un-install instructions? Will my apps developed on that
previous version open in RTM?
2. Can I install VS 2005 on a box with VS 2003 running? How would I setup my
old apps to open with 2003 and new apps to open with 2005?
3. Are the redistributable versions of .net 2.0 available to install on
production servers?
4. Where can I find an API change list between Sept release and RTM?

TIA!

Shouldn't that be 1 and 2? ;-)

Yes, you have to fllow ALL of the specific instructions for uninstalling
previous versions of Visual Studio.Net 2005, if you know what's good for
you. Just read and follow the readme.htm on the CD.

Apps developed with previous versions will open, yes. As to whether they
will run, it depends on which previous version they were developed with. At
any rate, it should not be hard to find and change any inconsistencies.

Shouldn't that be 3 and 4? ;-)

Yes, you can run both versions on the same machine. I've been doing so for
nearly a year now. But if you try to open .Net Framework 1.1 projects in
VS.Net 2005, it will want to upgrade them. So, you have 2 choices: Upgrade,
or continue to use VS.Net 2003 alongside of VS.Net 2005.

BTW, you can certainly USE .Net Framework 1.1 assemblies in a .Net Framework
2.0 application.

The redistributable framework is included in the VS.Net 2005 CD, and
available for download from Microsoft.
