visual studio .net general: I know this is a silly question but ….

How can I add a file from some other directory but only as a “shortcut” or
link to that file without having it copied to my project dir. For example,
there is a directX sample that has a bunch of files in the project with short
cut icons on them.

browse to item
click the little arrow on the right of the "Add" button
Choose Add As Link
