VS.Net, Add Project from SourceSafe? Bill Cohagan
3/31/2006 2:09:20 PM
visual studio .net general: I'm trying to set up a solution that is made up of several projects from
"unrelated" VSS folders; i.e., they are not siblings in the VSS structure
although they are intended to be siblings in the solution and folder
structure on the disk.

To do this I'm attempting to use the "Add Project from SourceSafe" menu item
in File.[Source Control].[Add Project From Source Control...].

This works fine for the first project I add. The project gets added in a
newly created folder which is a child of the folder containing the solution
file. When I attempt to add a second project (using the same menu item) I
get an error compaining that the project can't be added to the folder
because there's already a project there. The referenced folder in this
message is the root folder for the solution. The attempt actually does
create a new child folder for the project; however it is empty.

So, what am I doing wrong here? Surely it's possible to do this sort of
thing; otherwise how do you share common project code between different
solutions?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or pointers on this.

Bill

For FWIW it turns out that shutting down and restarting the IDE after
adding each project allows you to accomplish the task, albeit very slowly.
So, this appears to be a bug in VS.Net (2003) that is leaving the solution
file in a bad state after each project is added.

Bill

Hi Bill,

In the Add project from source control dialog box, you can set the local
path for the project being added. Please select a different folder from the
first added one and it might be working fine. HTH.
