Creating installer with foreign applications required

Creating installer with foreign applications required pmz

visual studio .net general: Dear Group,

I've developed an application (using Visual Studio 2005/C#) and I've
successfully created an installer for my application and its running
fine. That's no problem.

The problem is foreign applications (in example: database servers,
which need to be installed for 100% of working & usage my app). Is
there any way to invoke installation of such applications before
installing mine - i.e. predefined in my app installer?

Another problem is with configuring those applications. The
possibility that the end-user will not be able to configure (even
through installation wizards - most of cases user-friendly, but... you
know) such servers is pretty high, so I'd like to help a bit with such
configuration - if it's obviously possible.

I understand, that my problem description and cases are little bit to
"global" and "universal", but I mostly request for help in "developing
such application howto". What shall I do, what are the steps which I
should follow - software engineering & logical bases.

I'm expecting help in any form (articles, tutorials, what so ever).

All the best & thank you,
Przemek M. Zawada

Hi,

One question worth asking; if you're going to set up a database (like
SQL Express) on the user's machine, what if they've already got other
apps configured to use SQL Express as well?
