visual studio .net ide : garbled, slow-loading text in html files

When I open an HTML file in VS.Net 2002, it appears as a series of nonsense
characters and takes about a minute to load, and will not let me switch to
HTML view. If another window clips the editor, then I move that window out
of the way, the HTML file will reload again in the same way--a series of
garbage characters slowly filling the screen. I did a KB search for "garbled
text" but found nothing. I wonder if this is related to recent OS security
patches. It seems like this just started happening. Any help appreciated.

My bad. The cause was a META tag inserted (I think) by the MSXML4 XSLT
processor. But I don't understand why this had such a crippling, bizarre
effect on the file's load behavior in the IDE. Thoughts on that appreciated.
