Hello,

I'm running VS 2005 Pro with a Visual Basic application project, and I ran
into the following issue: when opening VS from a different user account than
the one it has been installed from, it will reset its settings (with a select
layout configuration dialog) and, after this, the "Configuration Manager..."
menu item under Build will disappear. So will the configuration dropdown next
to the Run (Play) button on the toolbar. Dragging them back from the
Customize dialog will add them, but they are disabled. The build
configuration seems to be locked on Release after this and there is no way to
change it.

Reinstalling Windows and Visual Studio seems to solve the problem with the
same project, so apparently it's not the project's fault.

Hi euphilos,

[quoted text, click to view]

This behavior is as expected, each user account should have his/her own
VS2005 environment setting to use.

It appears you just choose the "Visual Basic Development Setting" for this
VS2005 session, if so, since the Configuration Manager is disabled in that
Visual Basic Development Setting, this is the reason why the Configuration
Manager button and feature could not be used. I suggest you can use some
other environment setting instead, such as "General Development Setting"
(Tools\Import and Export Settings...)

Thanks!

Best regards,
