Extremely slow rsponse in VS IDE Bryan

visual studio .net ide:
I'm running VS2k5 Team Suite, and the performance is abysmal. With no
project open, just trying to dock or undock the solution explorer
window is nearly impossible - the IDE seems not to respond at all as I
drag the window around, so I can't see where I would be dropping it.
After maybe 45 seconds the docking arrows *start* to paint - they
finish after another 10 or 15 seconds.

The problem started when I replaced the trial version of Team Suite
with the licensed version, doing a fresh install.

I'm not running any plug-ins.

Machine info:
Dual 2.gHz Xeon Chips
2 gb memory
NVidia Ouadro FX 3000 Video Card, 256 mb memory

I've got plenty of free disk space, it's all de-fraged, and I'm
stumped.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Bryan,

Thank you posting!

yes, there is something wrong with your Visual Studio 2005. At first I
suggest you can export a standard Visual Studio Setting for a test. To
change the current Visual Studio setting, you can do the following steps:

1. On the Tools menu, choose Import and Export Settings.

2. On Welcome to the Import and Export Settings Wizard page, click Import
selected environment settings and then click Next.

3. On the Save Current Settings page, select Yes, save my current settings,
and then click Next.

4. In Which collection of settings do you want to import, select a settings
collection from the list and then click Next.

5. In Which settings do you want to import, expand the list and select only
the categories or category items you want to apply to your current settings.

5. Click Finish.

I appreciate your time in performing them. Let me know the results at your
earliest convenience. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me
know. I am standing by to help you.

Thanks!

Best regards,

Gary Chang

Gary -
Thanks for the reply. Reloading the settings made a big
difference, but it's still really sluggish. Any more ideas?

Thanks,
Bryan

Hi Bryan,

Thanks for the response!

Would you please tell which kind of the opearations would cause your VS2005
IDE slow response?

Does the problem only happen to the actions of manipulating its UI windows?

Thanks!

I also suffer from similiar issues - I recently upgraded from 1gig to 3gig
RAM and it made a noticeable difference but I still get annoying pauses all
the time, especially with Forms that contain a DataGridView

I have a P4 3.2Ghz with 3Gig RAM and RAID0

Hi Brian,

I think you can also try to delete the following folder:

..\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Visual
Studio\

The VS2005 user specific configuration and settings are cached in that
folder.

Thanks!
