group:IDE locks up on loading or new web project
visual studio .net ide:
As soon as a web project is loaded in VS 2005, the IDE completely freezes. In the taskbar I have a small VS icon that when clicked says "Microsoft Visual Studio is waiting for an internal operation to complete. If you regularly encounter this delay during normal usage, please report this problem to Microsoft." This only started today, but I am totally prevented from programming. Thanks, Craig

I followed the instructions in the KB, but that did not solve my problem. I even uninstalled / reinstalled VS (about a 2 1/2 hour process) and it is still not working. The only thing that was different on my computer from one day to the next was the installation of a new printer and an automatic update from MS. Script blocking is turned off. My IDE starts, and I can view the articles presented on the start page, only when I try to code does it lock up. Also, I should add, I can click on one, maybe two, things ex: default.aspx
and web.config or open the toolbox or open the solutions explorer and then it freezes. The devenv is loaded and functioning but in a matter of seconds it locks up. And yet another thing: I just started the computer in safe mode (with network support) and the IDE worked correctly. Then rebooted, restarted VS and it locked up as soon as I clicked on the web.config tab. Does this problem only happen to the web site project, how about if you work with a .NET Winform project? By hte way, I suggest you can use the Filemon utility (from www.sysinternals.com) to monitor your VS2005 IDE which it hangs. Thanks! Funny thing: apparently FileMon actually repairs the problem! Not really, but I started FileMon and then started VS2005 and VS worked (and is still working). However, between FileMon and another program called Process Explorer I have discovered the inetinfo.exe is the process that is causing things to hang. I kill the inetinfo process and things start working, then inetinfo reloads itself and things continue to work. I realize this is out of the scope of this forum, but if you know anything about what I have just described and know of a fix, I sure would appreciate your help. Otherwise, I will post in a different forum. To answer your question, VS was hanging only on ASP projects (both C# and VB). I am glad to know you found the root cause of this issue. Apparently the inetinfo process does some wield things with the VS IDE. I will report this issue to our corresponding product team for review.
