Installing failed!--VS.NET Pro 60 days Trial because CD files could be found Jon Cao

visual studio .net setup:
I have just got a trial 60 days version of Visual
Studio.Net Professoinal. I've tried to install into
Windows 2000 Professinal with SP3.

While installing CD1, several error messages pops up,
saying the files missed. I have checked the CD directories
as the messages pointed out, and I found out that the
files are not there.

Some of popup message have Retry, Cancel and Ignore
options so I have to choose Ignore. But when it gets a
point there are only Retry anc Cancel, there is no way for
me to continue, so the Setup/Installing quit!

The following is the error log.

Could anybody help me with this? Thans a lot!!

It sounds very much like a bad CD and/or your CD drive is failing. If you
have an alternate drive, have you tried it? You'd be unlikely to find the
file names mentioned in the error log on the CD directories, as they are
probably archived in cabinet files (*.cab) on the CD's and are extracted
from the cabinet files during installation. If you check the contents of the
cabinet files, I believe you'll find that all files are there.
One possible workaround would be to copy the contents of the CD to your hard
drive (if you can) and try the install from there. If the copy fails, you
can be pretty sure it's either a bad CD or your drive.

<snipped an enormous output listing>

John, those files are on the second CD-ROM. My installation
did the same thing (I found your post on Google). What I had
done wrong was to insert the second CD in my second CD-
ROM drive. The installer was smart enough to notice the
second disc in the second drive and skip the prompt for the second
disc but was not smart enough to actually read the second drive.
I had to cancel the install (and endure the
rollback) and then reinstall using only one CD-ROM drive.
