visual studio .net setup:
Hi there,

In addition to my previous post, I cancelled my J# install, and then went
back to the start, and now it has got to disc 2 of VSNet 2003, but appears
to be stuck.

The display shows

Directory:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET
2003\CompactFrameworkSDK\ConnectionManager\Bin\DriverInstall

File: setup.ini

I looked in the logs and it said

<<
[09/26/03,11:24:18] VS70pgui: Failed to increment max steps for small
progress. Logging as event not error ... noncritical.
[quoted text, click to view]

This says to me that it can't update the progress, but that it isn't a
problem.

This was at 11:24, and it is now 15:45, so I am really wondering whether it
has hung.

Any ideas anyone???

TIA
Kindo

Hi Kindo,

[quoted text, click to view]
that error is noncritical and is not the cause for hanging. Please verify
existence of vserror71.txt file and posts its contents.

Just some ideas:
- have you already disabled any AntiVirus software?
- have you looged as an user, who is part of Administrators group?
- have you already tried to copy CD contents to hard disk, by using XCopy
accordingly to the following technical article?
307372 HOW TO: Create a Network Installation Point for Visual Studio .NET
Setup
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=307372 (after copying, please run setup
from HD)
- is your WinXP Pro up-to-date, accordingly to
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com?
- have you already tried, if possible, to install the same package on a
different machine?
- is IIS installed and running? Please check if C:\Inetpub\wwwroot gives
Full Control for Adminisrtators and SYSTEM account
- does the RegisteredOrganization contain non alpha-numerical characters (I
mean the registry key "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion -
RegisteredOrganization")
- ... (after looking at vserror71.txt)

HTH and bye,
