"The Operation could not be completed" - when dragging a dataset onto a form Giri

visual studio .net setup: I am suddenly getting the above, highly informative error, whenever I drag a
dataset from the toolbox to a web form. Other data components work fine..
just the dataset...

Anyone come across this? I searched the web to no avail...

Thanks

Pulling all the files from the original site into a new one allows me to add
datasets... However when I reopen a form which I added one to it is no
longer in the designer. Trying to add it again generates the error:

"could not add an instance of xxxxx dataset to the designer. To Resolve the
problem, build the project, fix any errors, and add the instance to the
designer again."

These are typed datasets I am using that are being supplied from a
referenced dll that contains all the typed datasets.

Anyone come across any of these issues? It is as if the resx file or the
designer is corrupted...

Hi Giri,

Please try the following steps and I hope it helps resolve the problem:

Off to the left click on the 'Toolbox' to bring it into focus, then 'Right
Click' anywhere on the toolbox, you should now be at the 'Customize
Toolbox' window.. Go down to the botton of the window and click on 'Reset',
this will pop up a messagebox stating "The default settings will be
restored" Click on YES.

Depending on your PC, this should take a few moments to rest all the all
the setting..
Ok, once this has completed, you should notice that the toolbox has less
tabs than it normally did before, this is OK. Close the Customize Toolbox
window by clicking OK, once completed go back to the toolbox and right
click once more, then you should select "Show All Tabs" Now you should have
all the original tabs that were installed with the .NET..

Thanks for your suggestions, the toolbox reset didn't help. The funny thing
is that the problem doesn't occur in a duplication solution where I copied
all the source files to..

I thought it might be related to VSS and unbound the project from source
control, this didn't help either...

I have a separate copy of the solution now but am not convinced that there
isn't some underlying issue here / bug... any other thoughts anyone ?

Giri,
You copied all the source files to a location and the problem doesn't occor
in the duplication solution. So would you create a new project and see if
the problem occurs?

A brand new project doesn't reproduce the problem. It is as if something is
corrupted in the original one where the problem is.

The only difference is that the original was under local machine source
control..

Now I feel uneasy about putting the new copy under source control in case
the issue reproduces itself.

(The issue was the dataset object wouldn't allow itself to be dragged onto a
web form, but also that dataset objects already on forms would disappear
when the form was opened.. very erratic and dubious behaviour..)

Thanks

Hi,
You're right that since the same problem doesn't occur in a new project,
there may be something wrong in your original project.

Hi,

Would you please make a new copy of your original project and put it under
source control in order to see if there's something wrong with the VSource
Safe?
