visual studio .net setup: hi, I'm having trouble installing Visual Studio 6 on my XP SP2 computer. I
get the error where the setup (vs60wiz.exe) gets the error "setup has
encountered a problem and needs to close".

i have searched through the newsgroups but have found no actual solution to
this problem. any help would be appreciated.

Please forgive me for belaboring the obvious, but VS 6 is an elderly product
and issues of this type are to be expected. I'll suggest that you uninstall
SP2, install VS 6 (which I've installed successfully on XP SP1a machines),
install the latest VS 6 Service Pack, then reinstall SP2.

I've installed VS 6.0 on several XP SP2 machines, although the XP installed
used a slipstreamed version of XP SP2 instead of installing XP then applying
SP2.

I had the same problem when installing on XP SP1a and then I got a special
installation utility from Microsoft Support. I don't know why the utility is
not made available for download but I guess they got some reason.
