newbit unable to do rapid evaluation due to ASP 1.1 error

I am brand new to VS Studio (2003 Architect) and when I tried the Web Application walkthru in the rapid evaluation, when I tried to create the project suggested, I got the following error

For security reasons I have to move it. I uninstalled and

I AM HAVING INSTALL PROBLEMS. THE INSTALL ROLLS BACK AT THE VERY END. I AM USING A CLEAN INSTALL OF WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL.
I MADE SURE THE SYSTEM HAD ALL THE CRITICAL SERVICE RELEASES INSTALLED USING WINDOWS UPDATE ONLINE.

I have another developer at this site that is trying to install Visual Studio .net 2003 from the MSDN DVD disk 2435.1 from the December shipment. It apparently went through the PreRequisites portion of the install without failure with the user selecting Drive D: as the target directory

I am trying to Install Visual Studio.net beta 2 on my xp home sp1 machine. I
am getting the following error :
ERROR: Error 1324.The folder path 'VsdCustomCheõ2Dlg.wid' contains an
invalid character.
Does anyone know what the problem is?
