visual studio .net setup: I have been trying to install VS 2002 Academic for two weeks now. For the longest time, everything would install fine, but when I tried to run the VS IDE, I would get a BSOD flash on the screen... Some "EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED" error.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times, disabling NAV, removing NAV, etc.

It takes several hours to load, even when I changed my options to load VB only, not VC# or VC++...

Now I removed everything from my startup folder and VS IDE loads, but crashes when I try to DO anything, same error as before.

I have several minidump files, and would be happy to forward them to anyone who thinks he or she can help with more info...

I am SERIOUSLY frustrated with this whole situation right now.

I am on a Toshiba laptop, Win 2K SP4. I believe my patches are current. 1.8Mhz CPU, 512M RAM.

Any hints would be helpful!

This probably isn't a VS issue, you've got something like a STOP 0x0000001E
related to some kernel mode failure (or driver). It also looks like you've
got your system set to reboot when you get the problem, so you can't get the
details of the error, so you should stop it from doing that in the My
Copmputer, Properties. Advanced, System Startup settings and write down the
first few lines. There may be a KB article it. There are several on that
STOP and EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED but without some more detail there's nothing
much anyone can do. public.win32.programmer.kernel would probably be a
better place to post the details.
