visual studio .net setup: My install of Vs.Net 2003 Architect version stalls on the second CD, file
UseResources.resources.dll, which is part of the examples. I end up having
to kill the install via Task Manager, reboot, start again, which requires a
rollback of an unfinished previous install. I can make this happen over and
over again with the error happening at the exact same point each time.
Reducing the install to just Vb.Net and C#.Net languages doesn't seem to
help either. I had previously been using Vs.Net 2003 without a problem
until recently and have been trying to repair/install for about a week now.
I'm running Windows XP Pro SP1 + all latest security fixes.

Try using msconfig.exe to clean boot the system and then execute the
installation.

Start > Run and type msconfig and then click Ok
Select the Services Tab
Click the Disable All Button
Locate and Check Windows Installer in the first column
Click Ok
Reboot
Install

If I clean boot, I won't have Norton Internet Security or Norton Antivirus
running. So should I disconnect my laptop computer from the Internet
(simple switch on the lid to turn off 802.11g connectivity) to prevent
trojan horse attacks, etc., or will doing so impair the ability of Vs.Net to
install, especially the web-oriented pieces that make web development
possible?

That seemed to do the trick (along with turning off all Internet access). I
have only verified a couple of small WinForm applications (no ASP.Net), but
I assume the later should work.
