Cannot uninstall or reinstall VSNET 2003

visual studio .net setup: I get the following when I try to uninstall or reinstall VSNET 2003 on WinXP
Pro

[07/12/04,11:43:12] setup.exe: [2] ISetupComponent::Pre/Post/Install()
failed in ISetupManager::InstallManagerHelper()
[07/12/04,11:43:12] setup.exe: [2] Component error string not specified in
ISetupManager::AddToActionResultCollection()

I found this error on Microsoft's site and it reffered to the registration
name may contain an apostrophe, but this is not the case.

Any ideas?
