visual studio .net setup: I'm running Windows 2000 with SP 4 and have been unable to install VS .NET 2002.
While looking around the VS .NET Support site, I found a 6/2/04 post titled "Many problems installing VS .NET 2003" by Max Palmer that had the same error messages I'm getting.
Until I found this, I thought there might be some problem w/SP4 and .NET 2002, but now it looks like the problem with .NET 2002 has migrated to more recent versions of .NET. Going thru the log has nailed the assembly failure on mshtml.dll, error 1935, "The check of the signature failed for assembly"

Suggestions I've tried include wwwroot$ permissions, mscoree, emptying the temp directory, and turning off the firewall. Sure would like to have a fix that isn't reformat the hard drive, reinstall the OS, and then install .NET (no comment about what I think about this kind of "support").

Sharing out the WWWROOT folder should have resolved this issue. Make sure
you used the following steps to do it:

1. Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer
Management.
2. Expand Shared Folders and click on Shares.
3. Under the Action menu select the option to add a New File Share..
4. In the Create Shared Folder wizard browse to the
[drive]:\Inetpub\wwwroot
folder.
5. In the Share Name: box enter wwwroot$
6. In the final window for the permission settings, choose the CUSTOMIZE
SHARE AND FOLDER PERMISSIONS option and then click the CUSTOM button
beneath.
7. On the SECURITY tab please make sure that the ADMINISTRATOR and SYSTEM
groups are present and that both have FULL CONTROL to the share. Click OK.
