visual studio .net setup:
I've been exclusively a visual basic programmer. I decided to add c#. I
ran add features from 3 different dvds that contained vs.net 2003, first
navigating to the section that exposed the vsnet setup program. I tried
staring the autoexec. after that didn't work I tried setup.exe In the end
the program kept calling for the disk with the *msi on it. It was right
there. Each time on three separate dvds. Finally I gave up.

Next I downloaded vsstudio.net 2003 and used isobuster to extract it. Same
problem. Asked for the folder where the msi was located, although I was in
that folder.

Next I used Nero's virtural drive with the iso, not extracted. Same
problem.

How do I update my visual studio.

Thanks in advance.

You can't add new features from some random MSI file - it has to match the
one you installed your VB from. As Peter says, if your VB is from a VS
edition, go to Add/Remove Programs and modify the product to add the VC#
feature. It might ask for the product CD.

Exactly what product and edition did you install originally for your VB? Was
it Visual Basic .NET Standard Edition? If the original install *was* Visual
Studio .NET Professional, Enterprise Developer or Enterprise Architect, have
you tried adding additional features through a repair install?

Hello Dannis,

Thanks for posting. You need to locate the source of the original
installation first. Then please go to "Add/Remove Programs" of control
panel and click the button "Change/Remove" for Visual Studio .Net. Then we
can change the features installed. When prompted for the installation
source, please let the installation program know where you store the
installation source.

The key is you need to know which edition of VS.Net you are using. You
should be able to see this on the splash screen. Then you can get the
correct installation source accordingly.

Folks, thanks for the help. What I've decided to do - and it is long overdue - is to reformat my 2 hard disks and reinstall everything microsoft from the dvds. I'll note on the dvd jacket that this is indeed the dvd that I installed such and such an app from.
