Unable to launch VS NET 2003 after Office XP install Glenn

visual studio .net setup:
Hi,

I am running VS NET 2003 EA Edition on Windows 2000 server, and have
recently removed MS Office 2000 and installed MS Office XP. Office is
working fine, however now whenever I try to launch VS NET I get a Windows
Installer dialog box with the message "Preparing to Install" then it simply
crashes after a second or so.

I found a KB article (873312) suggesting the cause of this problem is
MSO.DLL file, which is part of Office XP installation. It recommending that
I remove this file and repair my VS NET installation. I did this and the
same problem still occurs.

There is only a single instance of MSO.DLL on my system, in the C:\Program
Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Office10\ directory. Its original
timestamp and size is 06-Nov-2001 10:57 with a size of 9766KB. After running
the VS NET repair task it seems that EXACTLY the same MSO.DLL file is
replacing the erroneous one.

I would have thought that IF this version of MSO.DLL was causing the problem
then it would be repaired with a DIFFERENT file. This doesn't seem to be
occuring, which I think explains why my issue remains. Can this be confirmed
by anyone?

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated as my productivity has
been reduced to zero and I have a great deal of work to do.

Please help...

Thanks,

Try to manually unregister and then reregister the MSO.dll.

If that does not work run a repair of VS.NET with the following switches
from the run window. D:\VS_SETUP.MSI /vocmus
D: is the drive letter of your cd rom.

Could not unregister MSO.DLL.

The command line D:\VS_SETUP.MSI /vocmus gave "incorrect command line
parameters" error.
