Have you tried going to Add/Remove Programs and using Add New Programs?
You'd browse to the CD and run the setup program? You might be in that
Terminal Services mode (I forget what it's called) and it might want you in
install mode for system components (which is what happens in ARP).

Hello all. I have just installed Windows XP SP2 and am trying to install
Visual Studio.NET 2003 Enterprise Edition and am encountering a "Please go
to the Control Panel in install and configure system components" when
running the first step, "Visual Studio .NET Prerequisites". System specs
are
below should one care to consider these.

I completed the configuration of the default web site but receive this error
regardless of how I launch or begin the installation.

I have relaxed the Firewall, added an exception for the installer, and
turned it off completely.

I have also disabled anti-virus software.

Again, this is SP 2 for XP, so I am finding out what to expect, but cannot
find any help thus far.

Also, from a suggestion in a different NG, I shut down IIS and a number of
other services based
upon that suggestion to [try] to get by the install issue.

Also removed and reinstalled .NET Framework 1.1.

No joy, yet.

All suggestions welcomed.

Thanks in advance!

System Specifications:
Windows XP SP2
1GB 3200
250GB SATA HDD Maxtor
Asus K8NE AMD 64 3200+ 1 MB L2 cache with most current BIOS and all drivers
(nVidia firewall not installed)
ATI 9600XT
mouse/keyboard/floppy/display

That generated similar results. Using both the CD and a folder on the hard
drive (local). Copied to network share with no fix, either.

I did forget to mention I am logged-on as administrator and verified all the
folder/account permissions.

Thanks.

Here is where you'll find the answers you need. SP2 tightened up security,
and I'll bet you need to manually relax some default settings to get the
install to go.

Try launching setup from the VSS directory. That will bypass the main
setup which calls the prereqs and MSDN. If that work you can install MSDN
the same way. Similar problem happened here yesterday. Make sure all the
prereqs are installed. Let know how it goes.

Since my last post, that was what I tried. However, I needed to perform
each step of the 4-step process (of the pre-SP2 VS .NET Setup that worked)
from within the folder where it was to run from the autorun.exe stub. Note
I had to launch the enumerated step setup program, not the autorun.exe.
This, then, allowed me to complete the installation, which was my primary
goal. I hope someone from Microsoft is monitoring this thread and makes
note of this.

Thanks for the replies all.
