visual studio .net setup : How to put VS CDs on a DVD ?

Hello all, I think the title is quite clear enough.

I try to put the 6 VS CDs on a DVD, and to do that I followed the Admin
procedure to create a network image and put this image on a DVD and this
doesn't work, the setup always asks for the CD1.

Any idea, or any other solution ?

Anytime you create an Admin image, the contents of the CDs should all be
located in the same folder. In other words, don't create separate folders
for each CD like CD1, CD2... etc. Drop all of the contents of VS.NET into
the same folder and the contents of all MSDN CDs into a separate folder and
run setup that way.

Thanks but this doesn't work. I created the Admin image and while the VS
folder is on a removable media the install fails (it always asks for the CD1).

It works only if I copy the VS folder to a hard drive. Any other idea ??

In that case, instead of copying the content to a VS folder on the DVD, try
copying to the root of the DVD itself and then run the installation.

I'm having the same problem.

On my hard disk, I created a directory, VS .NET, where I placed the
contents of the four VS CDs. In a subdirectory, Update, I added the
Component Update disc. When I run setup from this location, there are no
problems.

If I copy the all the subdirectories (Extras, Program Files, Win, etc.) to
the root directory of a DVD, the installation proceeds for about 10%, then
prompts for CD 1.

I don't need a solution. I could just copy the files back if I need to
reinstall, but I'd rather not.

Any ideas?

You need to alter MSI files to state the same Media -> DiskLabel.

Their installer checks specifically for the Disk Label for removable media, thus preventing compiling a DVD in a nice and easy manner from the CD sets. You can alter all the three primary msi's to state the correct DiskLabel and then modify the setup.ini file to point to the appropriate directories and between the two it should work.
