visual studio .net setup : Setup error with tools

I am trying to install VS Tools for Office. I installed VS.net, I then
installed Office.

When I run the setup I get the following error message:

"Setup cannot detect the required version of Visual Studio .net on this
computer. before you install this product you must install a matching
regional language version of Visual Studio .Net 2003 Visual Basic .net"

Visual Studio .net is in English as is the version of the tools I am
installing.

I am attempting the install as a local administrator.

I have also tried the install with my normal profile. I swapped becuae I
thought this might be causing a problem due to the fact that I was using a
mandatory profile.

Does anyone know what the setup is checking? Has anyone seen this before?

I cannot find anything on this problem and I do not know what to do next.
the installation file speaks to this issue, but merely says that it is a
problem with different language versions, which is not the case here (at
least I don't think so).

Any help would be apreciated

Ray

Make sure you are installing VS.NET 2003 and not VS.NET. Check Add/Remove
programs. If it's listed as Microsoft Visual Studio .NET then that means
you have the the 2002 version of VS.NET and Visual Studio Tools for Office
were meant to work with the 2003 version.

Ok.
I got it.
The Visual Studio install did not put the BuildNumber key into the registry.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\7.1\Setup\VS\BuildNumber]
"1033"="7.1.3088"

I added this and it works fine.

Cheers anyway
