visual studio .net setup : Visual Studio.net 2003 fails on new Sony Vaio laptop

I have a new Sony Vaio Laptop with Win XP-SP preinstalled. I get by the
prerequisites on the MSDN Sept 2005 DVD step by saying I don't need web
debugiing. The install dies with the message executing action
RollbackCreateVsDevGroup. If I choose Web debugging and web server and the
front page extensions the install hangs about 3/4 of the way during the
"loading scripts steps". I noted in one posting that one guy had to install a
non notebook manufacturor version of the OS. Sony embeds its recovery on the
hard drive as well as the current drivers so I would like to avoid that
solution if possible. Any other suggestions?
Thanks

FYI, I just bought a Sony VAIO TX-670P and was having the same
problem...hanging during "generating scripts..." I called Sony (not helpful)
but they had me go into the System Configuration and turn OFF EVERYTHING in
startup EXCEPT for "PartSeal" -- I then rebooted the computer and attempted
the installation again... as of right now, I am past the generating of the
setup scripts and the files appear to be copying. WHat happens when I turn
back on the regular configuration I don't know but clearly it has something
to do with startup configuration Sony has going on it.

Thanks for the info Julie.
I was able to get by "the generating script error" by not requesting web
applications in the prerequites and then got stuck on the error above. I
tried turning off everything but MS-Installer and still got the same error.
(By the way it generated an error code 25003). With the help of phone support
I was able to find out error code 25003 is a media read problem. We were able
to get a good install by placing the install disk in another computer on the
same network, with the dvd drived shared on the network and installing over
the network. MS phone support thinhs it is a flaking DVD drive on the laptop.
I talked to Sony and they are surprized since I can not get the drive to fail
on other DVD apps (yet). My guess is that both the DVD distribution and the
reader are marginal and the reader was having a bit error. But I don't have
any good tests to track it down.
