visual studio .net setup:
I had problems with my partition on my hard drive and when I recovered
Windows XP, my studio.net was no longer functioning, so I tried running a
reinstall, but it threw an error about the msi install files.
I tried removing studio to reinstall a fresh copy, but it says it can't
find the setup components.
I seems that it's going to be an endless loop. I can't uninstall, and I
can't run repair, because all run from the setup program that's got corrupted
files stored somewhere.
Any ideas, short of a complete hard drive format and reinstall of
everything? i've got about 5 years worth of data on the drive, so a complete
system backup (it's a 160 gig drive) is gonna be alot of work.
Thanks in advance,

Thanks, I found that last night and did it, and managed to get install to
run a fresh install. I opened a few of my projects, and they opened ok, but
I haven't really run it through the paces as yet, but it appears to have
worked.
A second question...the .net framework update for 1.1 andthe J# updates
didn't work and suggested a manual install of those. I have the 2.0 beta
framework installed, is that going to need to be rolled back to 1.1 for
studio?

Visual Studio .NET 2003 works only with .NET Framework v1.1. If you look at
your installed software list, I'm sure you'll find v1.1. You might try
uninstalling the 2.0 Beta and any other beta software, then trying the
updates again.
VS 2005 and associated beta products (including the .NET Framework v2.0)
require a specific sequence for proper uninstall:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;908452#XSLTH4481121123120121120120

Read Paragraph 1.2.
