Wierd problem opening VS 2005 EXE Seigfried

visual studio .net setup: EXE's created with VS 2005 do nothing!

Here's the background.

I installed, and have been running successfully, VS 2005 since the
initial release on November 7. Just yesterday, I noticed that when I
try to "open" the EXE for a solution created by VS 2005, it does
nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Here's what I have done to diagnose the problem.

I created a very simple app using VS 2005 Express - a window with one
button that creates a message box. That works fine! I went back and
tried apps created in the past using VS 2003. They work fine. I created
the same app (one button and a message box) in VS 2005. Running with
the debugger works. Opening the EXE does absolutely nothing. The
hourglass turns on for a second and then turns off again - that's all.

What could be the problem?

Please tell us which project type(s) and template(s) you are using. Which
Express product?

Hi Seigfried,

Please delete the Debug folder first and then re-build the .exe file (you
can test both Debug and Release version).

Then please test if application still doesn't show up. Thanks.

Hi Seigfried

I'm a little bit confused with your statement above. To reproduce the
problem, do you mean you must follow the steps: 1) the first execution
works in VS2005 Express 2) run an app created with VS2003 3) then the
second execution no longer works ? If so, the runtime may somehow not be
loaded properly after you use VS2003. Do you have an application config
file in the output directory?

I apologize ... I did not mean to type Visual Studio EXPRESS. I'm using
Visual Studio Professional 2005.

In any case, the problem does not involve Visual Studio 2003. I only
quoted the other information to demonstrate that other forms display
applications were working fine.

The problem is VERY simple. Visual Studio 2005 forms would not display
when the .EXE is opened.

In the meantime, I discovered some very key information. Using the very
time-consuming method of rebooting in diagnostic mode and disabling
each startup service in turn, I was able to figure out that the
Kensington Mouseworks driver, KMW_RUN.EXE was actually causing the bug.
This was verified completely by uninstalling their software, testing
again, installing Microsoft Intellipoint and observing that the problem
was not there with many intermediate steps just to make sure nothing
was missed.

So ... although my immediate problem is now solved, I still have no
idea why it happened in the first place.

I have submitted it to Kensington. But I have no idea why you would
suggest Apple. I don't have an Apple and I didn't think they had
anything to do with Kensington. (But I'll check out the link anyway.)

Hi Seigfried,

So it seems the problem is related to hardware driver. Have you tested
something like changing the double-click speed?

To thoroughly figure out the root cause, I think you'd better submit this
issue to Apple for further assistance:

Thanks & Happy holidays.

Hi Seigfried,

Sorry, I just saw the driver appears to be from www.apple.com .

Hi Seigfried,

It seems Wenjun has some misunderstanding here. This is not relevant to
Apple. The driver in that link is also for Mac OS.

Based on my experience, this may caused by some conflict of drivers. My
first suggestion is download the newest Kensington mouse driver from their
web site and then test:
http://us.kensington.com/html/1461.html

If the problem still exists, please submit the issue to them and reply the
feedback here. I am glad to also pass the feedback to our VS 2005 product
team so that they can be aware of this issue.

Thanks very much for your feedback.
