I am trying to install VS2005 Pro on an XP SP2 machine and also having a
similar problem. The progress bar completed for installing the component
"Microsoft Visual Studio 2005" and it hangs with the message above the
progress bar:
"Executing action: RemoveTempHxDs"
Don't know what to try now. Any suggestions. This is a new Dell M70
laptop. It does have VB6 installed already, but that should not cause a
problem.
Thank You

This thread looks old, but in case someone does a search and finds it (as I did)...
Same thing happened to me. Here's how I fixed it.
1. Install/reinstall .NET Framework 1.1.
2. Install/reinstall .NET Framework 2.0.
3. Reinstall Visual Studio 2005 (I did a repair reinstall).
That did it. It finally completed successfully. There must be something in one of the frameworks that Microsoft ASSUMES you MUST have installed... of course, how dare you NOT? So that's why it hangs at that point.
