visual studio .net setup : VS 2003 - created by newer version and cannot be opened

I'm not much of a developer and am actually trying to learn some stuff about
InfoPath. The examples I have all use VS2003 so I bought and loaded VS 2003.
When I try to open the examples I get the message:

"The selected file is a Visual Studio solution file, but was created by a
newer version of Visual Studio and cannot be opened."

My version is 7.1.3088 and I can not find any updates for it anywhere.

Thank you so much! That was not the problem but it did give me a clue. I
said I had gone to 2003 becasue I did not want to learn 2005 and the samples
at the same time. I had tried 2005 on the samples (that is what prompted
going to 2003) and after you note realized that I was trying to open the
"new" converted solution not the original.

Thanks again

Your version number is the same as mine.
Are you sure the examples you are using are Visual Studio .NET 2003?
Any possibility they are Visual Studio 2005?
Another thing you might try (and this is a shot in the dark): have you
updated your .NET Framework v1.1 with SP1? You might want to go through
Windows update or to:
