Please go to the control panel to install and configure system components. pops up when I boot up and after all of the of the settings have been checked as administrator, personal settings and all programs are loaded properly-this prevents anything from being seen on desktop until OK or X out-have searched for an auturun.inf file in the C:\ root and nothing there. I am using Windows 2000Pro OS and would appreciate any help in trying to locate and eliminate this nuisance.

It will be helpful if you can provide some details:
Edition and version of Visual Studio .NET you are working with.
Patch level of Windows 2000 Professional.
Have these symptoms been present since Visual Studio was first installed, or
did Visual Studio work without incident up to some point in time?
An exact quote of the error message received (if your post is a paraphrase),
including any number(s).
When does the message appear? When the product loads? When it is being
installed? At exactly what point?

I think I've read that this can happen if you have an entry for setup.exe in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App
Paths\Setup.exe, so it runs some setup.exe from wherever that App Path entry
points instead of the VS setup.

I too am having this problem.
I deleted the registration iteme mentioned. This did not fix it.

The product I am installing, also installs MS SQl Server Desktop Edition. I suspect that the Installer for some reason, probably MS logo protection, doesn't allow the MS Component to install silently.
I hope not.

I ran into this problem when running setup.exe from a network drive. When I moved the setup files to a local drive, it worked.

While this is getting a bit off topic for the VSnet setup group...

Since it asked you to retry so many times - possibly the disk is a good
copy, or scratched or whatever..? Is it possible for you to try it on
another machine? Or alternatively... You could try simply dragging all of
the files from that particlar disc to a temporary directory on your HD -
just to see if they will copy without any errors.

If it turns out the disk is bad, you can probably get another from whoever
publishes The Sims.

Hope that helps..
