I get a message to insert my prerequisites disk on Winxp PRO sp2 during
the install of VS .net 2003. I place the disk in the drive and then
another installer (intel chipset configuration installation screen)
flashes before the app exits. What is the problem?

I went in and manually installed the prerequisites and step 2 is now
available. However, the result is the same where the installer goes to
the intel chipset configuration screen before exiting. This time, I
can't install directly from the vssetup.exe because it points me back
to the main setup and won't continue installing. Any help would be
appreciated, as this is extremely frustrating.

Try this as a possibility.
This fix was posted for a similar problem and may well work for you.

This is a clear negative mark in my book for Microsoft, as this type of
obvious dependency should be stated somewhere in the install docs.
Microsoft can't assume an end user would intuitively know why this was
happening. It ate up about 3 hours of my time trying everything to get
that install to work...

when asked for prerequisites disk and i put the cd in the cdrom it tells me wrong disks(my vb.net cd w2as compressed on one file)
