visual studio .net setup : how do I remove residue of Trial Version?

I installed MSVS.NET2003 Trial Version. Noticed that some features, such as
TOOLS/Customize..., TOOLS/Options..., VIEW/PropertiesWindow, were grayed out,
with message 'feature will not be active until you renew your license'

Installed MSVC#.NET Standard (not a trial version) while VS was still
installed (probably a mistake...). Features still grayed out.

Uninstalled VC#, and Uninstalled the VS Trial version. Reinstalled VC#.
Stilled grayed out, with same message about renewing license.

Additional clue: ever since original install of VS Trial, an MSDE error box
has appeared on startup: 'MS Development Environment has not been installed
for the current user. Please run setup to install the application' Now, the
MSDE is sitting right back there behind this error box and will run (with the
above features grayed out) as long as I don't X or OK off the error box.

Anyone have idea how to get around this?
