VS 2005 Pro Beta 2 June CTP setup fails

VS 2005 Pro Beta 2 June CTP setup fails Chad P.

visual studio .net setup:
I have tried to install several times now and continue to receive the same
error:
[06/16/05,17:16:19] Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Beta 2: [2] Setup Failed on
component Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Beta 2
[06/16/05,17:16:45] setup.exe: [2] ISetupComponent::Pre/Post/Install()
failed in ISetupManager::InstallManagerHelper() with HRESULT -2147023293.
[06/16/05,17:16:45] setup.exe: [2] Component error string not specified in
ISetupManager::AddToActionResultCollection()

After the first attempt, received additional error msg to that above:
[06/16/05,17:16:19] Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Beta 2: [2] Error code 1638
for this component means "Another version of this product is already
installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or
remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the
Control Panel.
Assume this exists because I had already installed SQL Server 2005 Beta 2
June CTP. I uninstalled the .NET Framework 2 Beta and then installed it
manually from the CD. That was successful. Now to install VS 2005, and it
fails again for same .NET Framework 2 error, even though it is already
installed appears to try and install again.

Any fix or help on this?

Thanks
Chad

I am having the same problem. I am also rather disappointed in the "support"
coming from Microsoft for this problem. I realize that this software is
technically still in Beta, but RTM is set for 9/15/2005 and I can't believe
that MS hasn't frozen the code yet. Which tells me that they have either
fixed the problem, but aren't telling us how to fix it ourselves, or they're
going to ship an inadequate product with "known bugs". Which is it? There are
many of us apparently on this newsgroup that have either this or a similar
problem with the installation of SQL Server 2005 and VS.NET 2005, what is the
fix?

I got the issue resolved. Read on if interested in how I resolved the problem.

I had come across a blog while search for solutions last nite and it
mentioned uninstalling the VS integrated pkg that is installed with SQL
Server. I think that was the cause of my problem all along; as it's the one
step I never performed (actually never noticed it) in my previous attempts.
Installation details below...

I started a new Virtual PC with Win Server 2003 Standard. Installed IIS
installed and then SQL Server 2005 Beta 1 (April CTP). I then uninstalled
the Visual Studio integrated package that was installed with SQL Server,
along with the .NET Framework 2.0 Beta (VS 2005 Beta 2 contains a newer
version). Reboot and then installed VS 2005 Beta 2. I did not install SQL
Server Express and few other tools (J#, C++, Crystal Reports) in the VS
setup. You can verify the VS package libraries that are installed/failed via
the VS development environment - Help -> About MS VS.
