vsnet 2003 prerequisites on WinXP Pro SP2

I want to install VS.net 2003 with web hosting on WinXP Pro that already has
SP2 and updates installed. The prereq instructions are to install SP2 and
critical updates AFTER adding Windows components (IIS, FP Server
Extensions).

installing vs 2005 b2 on W2003 (Build 3790.srv03_gdr.040410-1234) server
fails with very little info as to the cause of the failure. Installs fine on
w2k sp4.
Any one got any info on this.

I attempted to install VS.NET 2003 and received internal error 25003 and the
install failed. This is a laptop that met the prerequisits, OS is XP Pro SP2
with SQL 2000 Developers Edition installed. I could not find an answer on
the MS site.

WinXP-Pro 512 meg ram 20 gig drive 8 gig free. SP2.

I've found references on the web about a thread in this newsgroup from early
2004. Apparently there is a patch to allow the WebSetup package created by
VS.NET to install to a different target directory.

Program installer does not show up in Add/Remove programs or
Windows\Installer cache.
When I try to run setup program from disk, either repair or uninstall, I get
