visual studio .net setup : VS 2005 Beta 2 Doesn't Work - Help Please!

Hi, I am having major problems with Beta 2.

My Win XP2 system has VS 6.0 and previously had VS 2005 Beta 1. I
uninstalled the Beta 1 in the recommended order, then I installed Beta2 (with
the default options) from a DVD created from the MSDN iso image download.

With an open .NET C++ project, when I select menu item Project|Properties...
I get the following message:

"Failed to create .NET Frameworks PropertyGrid component. Please verify
that the Common Language Runtime and .NET Frameworks are properly installed."

A second problem occurs with the menu sequence Help->How Do I->How Do I the
message in this case is:

"Package 'Visual Studio Comon IDE Package' failed to load."

I was unable to "repair" the installation because this installer option
insists on asking for "Disc 1" of a CD and I only have a DVD.

***Please, what can I do? Evidently many people are having trouble
installing Beta 2, judging from this newsgroup: one wonders if this is
billion-dollar vaporware. Please offer suggestions, recovery strategies or
other information. My only choice at the moment is to go back to VS 2003
with the old Managed C++ paradigm.

Here are the unique lines in dd_vsinstall80.txt with the word "failed" in
them:

Hi GeoBai - try this.

I had exactly the same problems. Fortunately the solution in my case was
quite simple. Try running the beta 1 cleanup tool,
vs2005_beta_cleanup_tool.exe - as described here:

blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2005/04/16
lab.msdn.microsoft.com/vs2005/get/vsbeta2installerissues

This tool removed conflicts with my installed beta 2 version, and so far,
all appears well again. Let us know if this does not fix the problem.

Thanks, it worked; help appreciated. As most SOB's at MSDN don't deign reply
it's either MSIL or SOL.
