visual studio .net setup : Installation of VS .NET 2005 Beta 2 disables MSDN libray

I'm having a major problem with VS .NET 2005 Beta 2. I installed it and it
didn't work. I reported this on the Feedback site.

However, my MSDN library - January 2005 stopped working. I've just
uninstalled the libray and reinstalled it but the same symtoms persist. On
the index tab, the window is empty so I assume that none of the data in the
library is visible. If I do a search, an error dialog is popped up that
says "Object has not been correctly initialized."

I tried to uninstall the Beta 2 VS.NET but it doesn't show up anywhere in
the list of "Add or Remove Programs" list. It's on the list of "All
Programs!"

I reported this under the heading "Install Failure from distribution VS Team
Suite" to the MSDN http://msdn.microsoft.com/feedback site, but I'm not
anticipating any sort of quick response. I did the same thing last week
when I first installed VS 2005 but my comments were ignored and I was
advised to submit the bug again.

It wasn't a pressing matter but now that the MSDN library won't work, it's
become very important that I get rid of the Beta version.

Hello Edward,
From your description, after you installed VSNET 2005 beta2, your MSDN Jan
's index file is corrupted. I made a test, and from my test machine, VS2005
beta2 lives harmoniously with MSDN April 2005. And their installation
should be side by side.
I noticed that you tried uninstall vsnet2005 but can not find vsnet2005
beta2 from "Add or remove program" list, I am not sure what cause this
issue, fortunately we can remove vsnet2005 from the installation disk
directly by clicking setup.exe from vs folder, and then you will see the
remove option listed.

Please note: currenlty vsnet2005 beta2 is not supported by newsgroup. you
need to contact development teams through the page which you posted for

Rhett,

I realise that Beta Feedback was the place to go but after reporting my
problems last week on the Feedback page, I was singularly unimpressed with
the help I received - none! Particulary since it had broken an app that I
did use - MSDN Libray.

When I start off, there isn't a choice of uninstalling the VS .NET 2005. I
think that the system doesn't know that the app is installed since it
doesn't show up in the list of Add/Remove Programs.

So I reinstalled the product. Now it shows up in the Add/Remove program
list and when I start CD:\vs\Setup.exe I now see a choice of whether I want
to install or uninstall. Also, magically, the MSDN library is now populated
with all the topics. I can also start VS.NEt! There was obviously
something really bad with my previous install.

Regards,

Ed

Thanks for your feedback. I am glad to see the problem has been resolved.
Though vsnet2005 is not officially supported by us, when you meet any
problem in vsnet installation, you can give me a try :) I am glad to be of
your assistance.
