VS cannot connect to local SQLServer altho Enterprise Manager can

visual studio .net setup:

Inexplicably, VS can no longer access by local SQL Server, although I can
still see it in Enterprise Manager. Further, I can still access a remote SQL
Server through VS.

It has been working without a problem for months. Now, suddenly, when I try
to click on my local SQL Server with Server Explorer, I get a SQL Server
Login. I click the Use Windows NT Integrated Security box and OK, and after
a long pause I get a message saying it can't connect.

The only thing I have changed is I created a DSN to access the local SQL
Server through Linked Tables in Access, but I can't imagine how this could
have affected VS.

Any ideas gratefully received,

Thanks Rhett. I have tested with a udl on my desktop and the error says "Test
connection failed because of an error in initializing provider.
[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access
denied.

I'll post the problem in the right group .. thanks for you help.

Hello Gwenda,
If you just created a DSN, it should not affect the Server explorer. Could
you create an udl file in desktop and try connect with the connect-string
you put in the server explorer to see if you can access you local SQL
server correctly? If not, this should a SQL connection problem.

Please note: vsnet.setup is for questions on setup issue when installing
vsnet, for questions on Vsnet IDE or SQL, please post to vsnet.ide or
sqlserver.server and its sub groups for proper help.
