visual studio .net setup : Missing SQL Server after Visual Studio Install

Recently got new laptop and installed Visual Studio .net 2003, when it was
done SQL Server was not installed. On my old laptop, when I installed VS .net,
SQL Server was installed. Is there any way to just install SQL Server? I
tried setup again, but after choosing Add/Remove components, there was no
choice for SQL Server.

Any ideas?

Thanks Peter,

Actually I did find out that MSDE is installed withVisual Studio .Net 2002,
see http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/msdeapps.mspx
the .Net 2003 I have is an upgrade which does not include MSDE.

Thanks for your help,

Paul

Visual Studio .NET 2003 does not install SQL Server (or MSDE) automatically.
If you had SQL Server on your old laptop, it came from a different source.
You can download and install MSDE and use it with Visual Studio:

Yes, MSDE *did* install with Visual Studio 2002, but does not with Visual
Studio 2003, even with the full version. The fact that your Visual Studio
2003 is an upgrade has nothing to do with it.
At the time VS2003 was being prepared for release, there were some security
issues with MSDE which required patching, so the unpatched MSDE was not
included in the VS 2003 installation package. The download I pointed you to
is patched.
