visual studio .net setup : VS 2005 Team Beta 2 -- hold the team?

I've installed VS 2005 Team Beta 2 Client on my system. I just wanted
to install the VS 2005 part, but that wasn't an option.

Running it, however, the only File menu options for new projects I have
are New Team Project and Add Existing Team Project, both of which
require me to connect to a Team Foundation Server. Which I don't have.
And which I don't want.

There appears to be no non-team version of the product available and no
way to build so much as a simple "Hello, World" app in the IDE without
a Server, which says to me I'll need the standard or professional
version.

Is that right?

I suspect that you inadvertently selected "Project Management" settings the
first time you started VS 2005. To change the settings, do the following:

Choose Tools->Import and Export Settings...
Select Reset All Settings, then click Next
Select whether you wish to save the current settings, then click Next
(You'll now see a list of settings options - roles if you will)
Choose General Development or one of the languages, then click Finish.

You should now see New-> in your File Menu, and then a choice list which
includes Project...

I tried installing elsewhere and found that, no, I hadn't done anything
of the sort.

I have no settings options except project management. Since this seemed
unlikely to me, I went to one of the other DVDs in the set. Ecco!

And now I do. Thanks.

(More evidence why you shouldn't do stuff like this late on a Friday
afternoon.)
