I was provided the following answer to my problem by a kind user of this
newsgroup when I followed up on a similar issue posted earlier. This approach
solved my installation problem.
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Unable to install the Visual Basic .NET 2003.
SYMPTOMS: After installing prerequisites, unable to uninstall the Visual
Basic.NET.
RESOLUTION: Deleted the content of default key from the registry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App
Paths\setup.exe
For your reference we did the following steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App
Paths\setup.exe
3. In the right pane, right-click (Default), and then click Modify.
4. If there is a value in the Value data box, delete the contents, and then
click OK.
5. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.
Start the Visual Basic .NET installation.
