I started to install VS2005 Pro from Dec 2005 DVD. The Windows components
installed with no problem, but the install of Visual Studio failed saying one
of the files was corrupted. I received a 2nd brand new DVD but am having the
same problem. I made a flat copy to my hard drive, but same problem. The
latest message is "Error 1335. The cabinet file
'_3880_RTL_x86_env_JLCA_core_Files.cab required for this installation is
corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error
reading from the CD_ROM or a problem with this package". This happens
whether I run it from my hard drive or the DVD. My machine is running WIN2K
Pro. Please help!!

Hi,

Yes I did try the installation with a new DVD and the problem persisted. I
don't have another machine to test with. I did download the DVD image file
"en_vs_2005_pro_dvd.iso" but didn't realize I needed to burn it to a physical
DVD and I don't have a DVD burner but I do have a CD-ROM burner.

Thanks!

Hi,

"Error 1335. The cabinet file '_3880_RTL_x86_env_JLCA_core_Files.cab
required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could
indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD_ROM or a problem
with this package".

According to the error message above, it appears to indicate there is
corruption in the DVD you received. However you have requested another
brand DVD to test and the problem still persists. Have I misunderstood?

If so, I wonder if you have any chance to test the installation on another
machine with fresh system installed. This will help us narrow down if this
is a machine specific issue which can be caused by corrupt system files or
anything else on the problematic machine.

Thanks.

There's software available that will allow you to install from the ISO via a
virtual drive. I've used Daemon Tools to install software from DVD images
like the one you downloaded.

I'd say the computer where the failure occurs has a suspect DVD drive. Have
you tried swapping drives, then retrying the installation? Another thing to
check is the operational mode of the drive in Device Manager. Is it running
in DMA mode?
