Prerequisite installation incomplete -- visual studio .net setup

I am installing Visual Studio.NET 2003 for the first time, I've installed IIS
and Microsoft .NET framework as required by the prerequisites. After
installing the new security updates as required, and rebooting the computer.
The installation CD asks for more prerequisites from the prereq. CD, Once the
CD is in It wants me to install some software from Creative AudioHQ....but
it's in spanish, I've translated it as mostly standard installation of
Creative software however even If I submit and install AudioHQ the
installation quits when finished and I inster Disk 1 and the process repeats
ad nauseum.

I've seen no know issue on this, and can find no way around it, or any
reason I should need another version of Creative HQ to run VS.net.

Looks like the installer has become confused. Here's a possible solution
that I'll quote in its entirety:

Open regedit and navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App
Paths\Setup.exe

Double click on the default value and clear the value data. It should now
be blank. This should clear up your problem and allow you to install VS.
