visual studio .net setup: I have been unable to install VS.NET 2005 Prof on my XP m/c. Following is my
PC's configuration: Windows XP Prof, V 2002, SP2; P 4 CPU 2.60GHz, 504 MB RAM
3 logical partictions c: - 900MB free disk space, d: - appx 17 GB free; My
common files setting points to d:. I am trying to install on d drive.

Setup starts up and after I select the components to install, I get error
like:
"Error 1335. The cabinet file _15777_RTL..... with this package". If I
eliminate some components from the Install order, the same error shows up but
for different cabinet files. After referring to many related posts on
Internet and MSDN KB articles with installation issues with other MS
products, I tried the following , none of which helped either:
1) I copied the complete vs directory from the installation DVD and tried to
install.
2) I tried installing a different version of VS .NET Team System - 180 day
trial , that was distributed by MS in an MSDN session to make sure that the
problem is not because of bad media. I got similar errors
3) I changed the setting in Boot.INI->Advanced to select /MaxMem = 504 (
that was the max allowed value on my PC)

Finally I managed to install VS.NET 2005. Problem was with my DVD drive.
When I copies all files from DVD to local hard-disk, I did not encounter any
error. Even the file sizes were reported to be correct. But when I tried to
extract the files(mostly .cab) manually using Winzip, it reported that the
..cab files were corrected. I then copied the corrupted files one by one from
the DVD (as and when VS setup reported error) to the local hard-disk again,
and then they got copied correctly. I expected the drive / OS to report
error if the file was not copied correctly, but this did not happen.
