visual studio .net setup : TFS commercial version vs. TFS trial (timebomb) version

I've been asked to set up a production Team Foundation Server installation.
I've asked our I.T. department to purchase a copy of TFS, and they are buying
a copy through Volume License.

However, I'm getting pressure to set this up "right away". MSDN has a
downloadable TFS "trial" version, with a 180 day timebomb. Can I install
this now, then "fix" it when the commercial version comes? Is it just a
matter of installing a new license key, for example?

I'm not really sure what I'm going to get when the TFS commercial kit
arrives. I understand that the TFS kit comes with a license for SQL server.
Again, can I load up the new server with an unregistered copy of SQL server
standard, then register it using the license key from the TFS kit?

Hi John,

Thank you posting!

I am afraid we don't support the TFS issue in this newsgroup. I suggest you
consult this issue in our specific MSDN forums, you'd get better and
quicker help there:

Thanks for your understanding.

Hello,

We didn't test your scenario yet. But you may refer to the following useful
article:

There is another utility that you can use to upgrade from prerelease
versions of team foundation server:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/teamsystem/team/
In the "Go-Live with Team Foundation Server " section, you can find this
tool. This tool may also useful for you.

I am not sure what "unregistered copy of sql server" means here. But I
think you may also install a standard version of sql server since you are a
MSDN subscriber.

Thanks very much.

Sincerely,
Yanhong Huang
