I have a VS 2005 installation that I am trying to add a component. If I go
to Add/remove programs or run directly from the DVD (from MSDN Subscription)
I get the same result. It goes to the first screen where it asks if you
want your info to be sent back to MS and initializes the install, gets to
+/-90% and displays this message "there was an error processing setup data
files...". The end of the log file is below. I have tried this from
add/remove programs, the DVD as well as copying the VS Directory to the
local HD and all get the same result.

It seems your VS2005 installation's data has been corrupted by some other
products, have you installed any other VS2005 products in your machine in
the same time or before?

Currently I suggest you can try the following steps at first:

1. Delete all the files and sub-folders of your system's %TEMP%
directories. You can find the %TEMP% directories in your machine's system
variables and your user variables.

2. Run the VS2005 setup program from the corresponding product DVD.

These tests will help us get closer to resolving your issue, so I
appreciate your time in performing them. Let me know the results at your
earliest convenience

I ended up opening a support case to get this resolved. What it was is a
bad dvd, I downloaded a new copy from MSDN, manually uninstalled all the
components, then reinstalled from the new download and it worked fine.
